Today's Topic : College Football, specifically the Miami Hurricanes --

Since it's Friday and I'm in a relatively relaxed mindset, I have decided to "tackle" a enjoyable and passionate subject.

I'm a huge Miami Hurricanes fan... I grew up in the city and idolized the Canes' greatness in the 90's and early 2000's. Ed Reed, Sean Taylor, Dan Morgan, Jonathan Vilma etc. were all household names, however, as I became an official hurricane, the names were no longer popular and intimidating and the school's football program turned for the worse.

I like to think of the 2007 - 2008 year as two days before a hurricane strikes. 2008-2009 as the day before - the calm day with beautiful weather, but in this case the beautiful weather is the return of tremendous speed, talent, and heart (Sean Spence, Travis Benjamin, Laron Byrd, Jacory Harris etc.).

And now we are about to begin the 2009-2010 season and like the day a hurricane hits, these canes are ready to wreak havoc. They will first tear down the electricity posts (Florida State) and prevent their opponents from functioning and eventually tear the shingles and eventually your entire roof (Oklahoma game) and display their uttermost natural dominance.

Everyone has their opinion, and albeit my metaphor may be far-fetched I do believe these Canes have special talent and charisma to be successful this season (and although successful in Dade-County constitutes of winning the championship - we'll give them a break and settle for an ACC championship).

Look out for these players: My watch list in the following order

1. Sean Spence : I remember seeing his name in the paper when he was a junior at Northwestern and thinking this guy is going to be good. --- Eric Licther can attest for my claim. He tore it up last year was a new favorite player domestically - but this year he will let the nation hear his name

2. Laron Byrd: He has the swagger of Michael Irvin -- and the physical tools of Plaxico Burress

3. Mike James: Most underrated prospect in the recruiting class. He reminds me of Ricky Williams with his power game mixed with a simple but significant speed game.

4. Marcus Robinson: Dwight Freeney clone? He-man? --- all of the aforementioned

5: Jacory Harris: Mark Whipple is his new O-coordinator. He could be as mentally strong as Dorsey was. I remember attending a Canes basketball camp when I was in the 5th grade and seeing Ken Dorsey coordinate his team during the summer (since coaches can't attend 7 on 7's during the summer) with the command of a respected general. Jacory's poise, coupled with what could be potentially the deepest receiving corps in the country should bode well for his future.
